August 2021

New Beginnings

Wow! We have made it to September. Where has 2021 gone? August has been full of new beginnings for both of us, including many answers to prayers and many new prayer requests.

This month, I started a third job, Stephen switched jobs, we met more new students, celebrated our third anniversary , were very blessed by our emotional support pup, spent many hours with toddlers, and were able to share with our faculty and class what the Lord has done in our minds and hearts since being here.

Stephen has switched jobs from working at Pacific home and kitchen to working with maintenance on campus. This has been SUCH a blessing for both of us! When we think of the Lord's sovereignty over the past year, one thing that waves huge in our face is the fact that Stephen got a "random" job at Best Buy last year selling appliances where he learned an absorbent amount of information about ordering appliances, fixing appliances, and the special uses and functions of both small and large appliances. This "random" knowledge has proved invaluable to the maintenance team as he was the only one who knew how to efficiently order and repair appliances in the on campus apartments. His skill set has a little bit of everything when it comes to in home repair so he was perfect for the job and I have been hearing from other staff what a wonderful addition he has been to the team and how quick things are getting done.

One funny thing is that Stephen added on a Historical Theology degree to his M.Div so when we leave here, we will be leaving with every degree they offer(!!) This is a huge blessing for us as well because it allows us to take Greek this year and Hebrew next year instead of taking them consecutively this year. We pray that this will equip us as we study historically, theologically, biblically, and linguistically to go forth into missions. In the midst of that all, I have had mental conflicts about life this month ( read here ) but the Lord has remained faithful to humble me, preserve me, care for me, and love me.

I have been desiring to get a job on campus as a front office assistant (FOA) since March of this year. I sent an email to the administration and was told that there was no need now but that they would keep me in mind for the future. Lo and behold, two weeks ago, I received an email asking if I would like to be a FOA to which I jumped on immediately. It has been a huge blessing because it is very low stress work that allows me to get some schoolwork done as well. It does put me above my hourly limit to be able to succeed in school on top of work. With about 40 hours/week of school responsibility, adding on 34+ hours of work is not sustainable. I am already feeling like burnout is on the horizon so we are discussing what is wisest to scale back on work wise. After all, our purpose here is to learn new depths of theology such that our hearts intimacy with Christ would abound in the knowledge of Him.

We are still below our monthly need financially with both of us working and with the current monthly support we are already receiving. Our remaining need is about $700 a month and we are asking that you would prayerfully consider partnering with us

We look forward to hearing from you and what your August looked like! Please respond to this email and give us an update and share how we can be praying for and supporting you.

Much love and many blessings,

The Byrd’s
