What is a Life Partner?

A Life Partner is precisely what it sounds like, simply; it is the mutual partnership and support of you and us together for the life of mission that God has called each of us to.

What it is

  • Coming along side of one another with encouragement and support for our respective missions

  • A beautiful relationship of prayer for one another through suffering, serving, and rejoicing

  • A way to actively partner with each other no matter the location or distance

  • An opportunity to join with the Lord’s global mission and advancement of the Church

What it is not

  • A charity or fundraising cause, we aren't selling a product but co-laboring for Christ

  • An excuse to not faithfully serve or support in either of our local contexts

  • A weighty requirement, but rather a joy-filled service

  • A one way street

A Life Partner can partner with prayer, encouragement, finances, wisdom and discernment, or even just keeping up with our updates so that you can respond as the Lord leads. Equally, from us a Life Partner can expect that we will communicate openly and often about what God is doing in and through us, the needs of the body of Christ, and what prayers are needed. The expectation is also a two-way street: communication about what the Lord is doing in your life and how we can pray and support that avenue of God’s Mission.

Life Partnership is no new concept.

From Scripture to Christian history to today, the people of God have always been the ones who support those in the direct ministry work of the Kingdom. We stand upon the shoulders of thousands of years of faithful men and women in service to God.

When God ordained that the Levite tribe be set apart for ministerial service he simultaneously ordained the rest of Israel to provide for their needs(Numbers 18:24). In the New Testament, we learn that Paul left tentmaking to preach full time on support in Acts 18. This structure has continued to the present day as the people of God provide for both the local church and the missionaries abroad.

One example in Church history is Frederick the Wise generously providing for and protecting Martin Luther in his life work in the Protestant Reformation. We also have an abundance of missionaries and local church leaders who have gone before us that God has faithfully provided for through His people.

We are confident that God has gone before us, paving the way for His people to further His Kingdom. God is the one who beautifully created this life partnership- for our mutual good and ultimately for His glory.

Why are we building life partners now?

Right now we are in seminary, not heading overseas. So why are we building life partners now? The quick answer is to lay the necessary foundation to flourish in God’s calling.

Due to the rate of return of missionaries due to burnout, we chose to not rush overseas right after undergrad, though we knew we wanted to go immediately. Ultimately, we are in seminary to be equipped theologically, historically, and biblically before going overseas long term.

We truly believe that this time will grant us much greater longevity and effectiveness long term because we spent time to intentionally lay the foundation and be rooted and grounded in Christ and the knowledge of him.

The reality is that higher education is expensive and we are setting ourselves up for a life in ministry, not for a high paying job that can easily pay off school debt. So in prayer and with wise counsel, we came to the decision to begin building life partners now, raising financial support and prayer support for this time and into the rest of our lives.

This also is no novel idea. Many theologians throughout history have gone forth in their education with the generous support of others wanting to partner with what the Father was doing through that person. One such example is John Calvin who went through masters and doctoral education with a backbone of life supporters providing for him financially and spiritually.

For us as well, now is the time.
